Finishing Up

I'm spending this last week, before we present, trouble shooting my game and adjusting graphics. My learning log is up to date as well.

Competition

Well, I've submitted my game for the competition at the end of the semester. I need to move a little faster on the game to make sure I have plenty of time to fix any glitches.

Hijacked

It's taken me a while to post. My Hotmail account was hijacked and that's where I had the backup info to log in to my blog. So, now I have my g-mail info backed up elsewhere. Anyway, I'm still working on the graphics for my game.

Working Slowly

Getting caught up is going a little slower than I had hoped, but I'm almost there. There isn't a lot to report on my game. I've been working on the graphics.

Week 3 Update

It's the third week of class and I'm a little behind already. At least, I'm mostly over the miserable cold I had last week (which is why I fell behind in my work) and making progress catching back up in all my classes. My goal, for the game, is to finish all the graphics and bring them into flash by the end of September. I'm probably being very optimistic given that I have to catch up in my other classes too, but I think I can have the graphics the way I want them by the end of the first week in October. I want to have the game coded by the end of October. Which leaves November to debug the game and take any suggestions or comments and possibly alter the game a little.

Final Game Demo

My game demo is finished. It's not exactly what I started out to do, but it's close. There are a lot of things I want to do to my game next semester. I want to add scenes for all the buttons on the map. There also needs to be some kind of prize awarded if you reach a certain point level. I want to add more items to the shop. I hope I have time to add it all next semester.

Game Demo

My game demo is almost complete. I need to finish the secondary scene and add sound. The rest of my demo is complete and working. The demo has been pretty easy to work on once I stopped trying to code it in Action Script 3.

Primary Scene

I'm using score keeping for my game. I will keep track of the points they earn as they purchase things in the game. The more they purchase and do, the more points they will earn.

Drawing A Scene

I've completed the title page and drew the Intro Page. The into page helps to tell the story of my game. It shows a plane flying the location where the game takes place.

Game Idea

I am designing my game for children with no experience with Spanish.  The game will teach Spanish vocabulary and phrases.  In my game a family travels to a city in Mexico, for vacation.  The kid in the game spends the day walking around the city buying souvenirs and seeing the sites.  The player has to learn Spanish vocabulary to make their way through the city.  They earn points for buying things and site seeing to motivate them to explore and learn more vocabulary.  A game is a better way of learning than a quiz because, if it's done right, you don't realize you're learning anything because you are having fun.

Mini Game

I've already had two semesters of Flash.  The mini game wasn't hard to do.  For a beginner, though, the instructions could be a little vague.  They didn't explain where to place each piece of code very well.  It was a fun little review exercise.  The hardest part, for me, was getting the wolf to let go of the rabbit after they touched.  He's a really hungry wolf. :)

Game topic

The genre I chose is strategy games.  My game will focus on learning Spanish.  I am thinking about modeling my game after some of the flash games you see on Facebook, like Farmville.

Playing to learn assignment

I reviewed two games for this assignment: Medical Mysteries and Bullseye.  Medical Mysteries was clearly designed by someone with experience.  The game provided a lot of information on disease and how to cure them.  Bullseye was designed by someone with a moderate amount of experience.  The graphics are pretty good.  The game is fun, but it could use some instructions to help with figuring out how to play the game.

Internet Safety/Privacy

Internet safety is really just common sense.  Don't add personal information on the internet because there are a lot of disturbed people out there.  They could use your information to find where you live or use the information to steal your identity.

First Day

Today is the first day of class.  We're setting up our blogs and wiki profiles.  The process is a long and slow one.
